10000 LIVES: THE 8TH
GWANGJU BIENNALE REBRANDING
10000 Lives: 8th Gwangju Biennale investigated the "relationships that bind people to images and images to people". Directed by Massimiliano Gioni, the exhibition served as a catalogue of works from more than 100 artists, created over the course of a century. The biennale title is borrowed from Maninbo (10,000 Lives), the 30-volume epic poem in which the author Ko Un, during his time in military prison, describes every person he has ever met, including figures from history and literature.
This rebranding focuses on mirroring individual lives with a system of variable typographic forms. Each "O" is the representation of a character, both in typographic and personal terms, configured in the structure of a 3 x 3 grid and a dual-tone color palette. This project includes logo, poster, motion, publication, and interactive design.
